Video Title / CaptionVideo 1: Regulation We begin the session by regulating with our learners and connecting through movement. Using deep pressure is a cheap and simple way to ground ourselves and co-regulate. We can follow their lead, staying present and open to any chance to connect and co-regulate. Sherbourne Movements would be another great addition to this particular session. These can be found in the storage drive. Video 2: Invitation We invite the children over, using a parachute to create eye-catching visual contrast and movement. There’s no pressure to join in; it’s simply an open invitation to observe, explore, or step in when they feel ready. We can create a welcoming space, whether they’re watching from a distance or coming to get involved. The only limiting factor with using a parachute is you need three available adults. Video 3: Shared Experience Now that some of the children have come over, we can extend this shared experience. It might be as a full class, in a small group, whatever fits best. Together, we bounce balls on the parachute, feeling the excitement build. We can pause to the music, 'stopping' all at once. All collecting the balls and placing back on the parachute surface. It’s joyful, energising, and a lovely way to feel part of a group. You get enjoyment if you are under, over, watching or joining in using the parachute, so everyone can join. Video 4: Ending As we come to the end, we don’t rush. We soften the movements of the parachute, remove the balls and play some calm music to help everyone slow down. This week I used my song from my parachute album, "Colours over you". Some children might want to lie or sit underneath and watch it float down on top of them, resting and enjoying the calm. From here, they can move on when they’re ready, or stay a little longer if that’s what they need. #speechpathology #speechtherapy #speechandlanguage #risetherapy #specialeducationteacher @RISE therapy sessions
