And the consistent flow lets you find the right flow for your baby - it will not differ between same level nipples.  GENERAL AGE RECOMMENDATIONS: Preemie & level 1 nipples: newborns- 3 months Level 2- 3 months + Level 3- 6 months +  Level 4- 9 months +   The Level 1 bottle nipples are a great place to start with babies who are not experiencing any feeding difficulties.  SIZE UP IF YOUR BABY IS: * Taking longer to finish eating  * Becoming fussy or irritated while eating  * Falling asleep during feeding  SIZE DOWN IF YOUR BABY IS: * Gulping  * Coughing  * Choking  * Milk dripping from the mouth  * Refusing the bottle  IMPORTANT: if your baby is breastfeeding, you may want to consider preemie, or staying at level 1 or 2. A slower rate will mimic the flow of milk from your breasts and help prevent nursing strikes. In the end, take your baby’s lead.
