It is likewise the place where REX BOOK STORE (RBS)
has its new beginning when the previous store was razed to the ground
after a conflagration destroyed everything except for the one
unblemished prayer book Jesus, Save me, which gave the Fontelera’s and Buhain’s the will to go on.
The year 1950 marked the conversion of Rex Book Store (RBS) in to Rex Book Store, Inc. (RBSI).
After starting out by importing books from foreign publishers for local
distribution, it ventured into publishing law books in 1950.
Three years later, they joined textbook publication starting with high
school titles and thereafter elementary and pre-elementary textbook
publications. A sister company, Rex Printing Company, Inc. (RPCI) was established in 1973 to cater to the printing needs of the ever-growing RBSI Publications.
Over the year, RBSI has put up branches nationwide. These are
strategically located in the following key areas: Cebu (1986), Shaw
(1989), Makati , Davao (1991), Iloilo (1993), Cubao (1994), Cagayan De
Oro, Pangasinan (1997), Legaspi City (1998), Rockwell, Cavite (1999),
General Santos City (2000), Cabanatuan, Pampanga (2001), Tacloban
(2002), Naga, Dasmariñas (2003) and Tuguegarao (2004).
Now steadily, in the millennium, RBSI operates extensively on seven
different publication domains manned by highly skilled and competent
marketing associates who take care of the company’s diverse clientele.
These divisions are as follows: The Educational Materials Division (EMD)
for Private School Textbooks, The Government Materials Division (GMD)
for Public School Textbooks and Reference Materials, The Tertiary
Materials Division (TMD) for College Textbooks, the Legal Materials
Division (LMD) for Law books, and the Rex Crown Publications for
Instructional Materials, Journals Materials Division (JMD) and Marketing
Services Division (MSD).
To date RBSI is a happy fusion of an innovate management team and
topnotch production, marketing, operations professionals, and FILIPINO
authors and writers who ceaselessly reinvent themselves for the further
improvement of the company’s product lines and services. The end result
is empowered educators, learners and readers in all over the
archipelago.
In 1973, within Rex Printing Company, Inc. (RPCI),
the Rex Commercial Division was organized to respond to the printing
needs of its quality-conscious clientele. In 1994, the Rex Oasis of Arts
and Culture (ROAC) Foundation was established not only to help develop
and preserve our cultural heritage but also to provide outreach programs
with preferential attention to depressed areas necessitating
educational materials assistance.
Rex Crown Publications, Inc. (RCPI) was established
in October 2003 and became fully operational in February 2004. The new
corporate entity was formed with the objective of coming up with
curricula-based non-textbook materials.
Established only in 2005, Rex Book Store, Inc. International (RBSII)
is the newest corporate entity, with the objective of responding to
transactions involving foreign business representatives through
co-publishing, outright purchases, translations and similar
arrangements.
